Profile

Alex is an experienced professional engineer and Senior Project Manager with over 10 years’ experience in the construction industry primarily in electricity transmission, distribution, storage and production. He is a Senior Project Manager at Rowfield Commercial and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Prior to joining Rowfield, Alex specialised in project management across a range of projects primarily on the client-side including working for National Grid and UK Power Networks. Alex has been appointed Project Manager on projects let on NEC ECC terms and also bespoke Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts with typical project and package values from £2m up to £25m.

Alex is a highly skilled project manager who uses technical and managerial experience to ensure projects are delivered safely and successfully. His broad  experience covers the entire lifecycle including initial feasibility, front-end engineering design, permitting and consents, procurement, delivery and commissioning. His strengths include using risk management, commercial negotiations, procurement and managing key stakeholder interfaces. He is adept at leading geographically diverse matrix teams in a fast-paced highly technical environment, and overseeing all disciplines including legal, consents, commercial, engineering, operations and finance.

Alex’s experience includes working from 11kV to 400kV on overhead lines, underground cables and substations, megawatt scale battery energy storage facilities and solar farms and clean-tech innovation projects such as direct-wire solar to rail and new power-electronics product development. Key project highlights include the Highbury 400kV GIS substation as part of National Grid’s London Power Tunnels, Southbank 132/11kV Transformer Replacement, a UK-first 41MW Battery Energy Storage Facility and a world-first solar rail demonstration project with Network Rail and Innovate UK.

Academically Alex holds a first-class Master of Mechanical Engineering (MEng) degree from the University of Sheffield, and is part way through a PhD in Chemical Engineering & Renewable Energy.
