James is an accomplished Project and Portfolio Manager and a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, with over 16 years’ experience in the construction industry including 13 years in the electricity transmission industry.
James and a proven track record in delivering multi-million-pound construction projects across the energy sector representing the client. In addition, he has extensive experience of providing construction and delivery expertise within the Electricity System Operator (ESO).
James operates successfully within demanding and complex environments and lead both large and small teams to provide a best-in-class delivery of projects across multiple electricity transmission technology types, ranging from HV switchgear and substation projects, overhead line construction, civils and tunnelling, XLPE cable installation, as well as commissioning and decommissioning. He has experience across NEC3 and 4 options A, C, & E as well as leading National Grid’s first project delivered under a Project 13 Enterprise model. James has led projects with a range of values, ranging from the £1.2bn London Power Tunnels 2 project down to small-to-medium contracts of between £3m and £50m. In addition, James has led in shaping the delivery model for industry wide reforms into introducing competition into Electricity Transmission markets, working closely with the system operator, Ofgem, and government departments. He is strongly focused on outcomes, technical expertise, stakeholder management, financial controls, cost, quality, governance and commercial factors. He is equipped with sound relationship building and leadership skills, whilst extracting maximum results from colleagues, operational partners and 3rd parties.
Academically, James holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, certifications in the management of portfolios and the management of value, as well as NEBOSH certification in construction health and safety.
He is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and has been awarded the title of Incorporated Engineer.
