Profile

Shahid is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager at Rowfield Commercial, and has over 25 years’ experience in the UK construction industry.

Shahid’s sector experience is infrastructure/civils based where he has predominately worked in the rail sector with a short period in Electricity Transmission. He specialises in the New Engineering Contract (NEC3) Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) (Options A, C) and has an in-depth knowledge of NEC ECC procedures at both pre-contract and post-contract stage. Shahid has worked on projects with contract sums in excess of £450m.

While representing the Client, Shahid has been responsible for the entire reporting process on the £450m Mersey Gateway Bridge project, which involved stakeholders such as Banks and Government. He held the position of Project Controls Manager on the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) rail project where he was responsible for cost control, change control, earned value reporting, applications for payment, identification, preparation and negotiation of time and cost claims. He also provided guidance and support to the management team regarding contract management and project risks. Shahid also used a mix of his quantity surveying and expert computer science skills to implement estimating software (CostOS) for a Tier 1 EPC contractor within Bradford City Council. While working for another consultancy he spent a year seconded to National Grid, where he provided estimating, tendering and commercial support to their E-Hub department. This allowed National Grid to introduce a competitive environment into its supply chain and so ensuring value for money.

Shahid has also represented main contractors in the position of Commercial Manager where he has been responsible for forecasting and monthly reporting, identification, pricing, presentation and agreeing of contract changes with the Alliance Management Team, Subcontractor management (tendering, contract drafting, valuations and change assessment), risk management and identification and promotion of business improvement processes for efficient and effective working. He has also been responsible for the production of claims documentation for review and submission for dispute resolution proceedings (£15m).

Academically, Shahid holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Quantity Surveying, a Master’s Degree in Software Development and a  Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.
