Simon is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building and a Commercial Manager at Rowfield Commercial, and he has over 25 years’ relevant experience in the UK utilities and oil and gas industries.
Simon’s sector experience includes nuclear decommissioning, operating thermal and nuclear power stations, oil and gas, and Britain’s civil nuclear new build programme. Simon has extensive procurement and commercial management experiences as well as project management and commodity management.
In the UK’s nuclear new build programme, Simon was primarily responsible for the project management and delivery of HVAC equipment to Hinkley Point C operating under NEC3 Option A.
Whilst in oil and gas, Simon lead procurement, and commercial negotiation to contract award for subsea manifolds and associated structures, leveraging his commodity knowledge of the global supply chains and his ability to bring teams together. Simon then provided commercial and contractual guidance to the execution teams based in the fabrication yards. In addition to this, Simon worked very closely with the sales and bid teams providing common sense logistical solutions to fabrication and fabrication location which included typical build times for different types of structures in different parts of the world with supporting cost and commercial information to help the sales teams in their bid no bid decisions. Project values into the hundreds of millions of US dollars and spend in the supply chain of tens of millions of US dollars.
Simon has worked to support one of Doosan Babcock’s customers, RWE, to develop its five-year Lifespan for its thermal power stations in southern Britain. In doing so, he provided the customer with supply chain certainty for subcontractor availability and prices to support the customer to predict its costs and scheduling for the mechanical aspects of the outages, maintenance, and repairs.
Simon has been customer facing in a commercial manager’s role he held in South Wales. In this role Simon was as senior manager serving on the management board of this medium-sized business in the thermal power generation industry. He provided all commercial and procurement leadership, support to the board and internal budget holders. He was also responsible for the procurement of contracts, buying, stores, and supply chain management. Simon managed budget control, day-to-day and long-term planning, the development of the procurement department and stores and provided significant input into the annual business plan. Leading a team of six.
Whilst providing expert and highly professional, procurement, commercial and contractual leadership, Simon has demonstrated his ability to lead complex commercial and procurement programmes, project procurement management, shaping sourcing frameworks, and steering commercial strategy in demanding Engineer, Procurement and Construct (EPC) environments.
Simon is also skilled in developing effective supply chain models, embedding governance standards, and delivering cost-efficient solutions.
Adept at managing cross-functional teams, Simon brings teams together, strengthening client engagement, and influencing executive decision-making through clarity and credibility of the information he provides.
Academically, Simon holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Surveying.
